WHAT'S A BLURB?
Book Blurbs are the enticing, short descriptions of your story, often found on the back cover of physical books. They can also be used as a great hook in your query letter.
A Blurb is intended to grab the reader’s (or agent’s!) interest and entice them to want to learn more. No more than four paragraphs, the Blurb should provide a sense of what the book is about in an exciting and engaging way.
WHAT IS BLURBAPALOOZA?
In the literary world, a Blurb is to a book what a logline is to a script… and we’re looking for the best Blurbs out there! We plan to run BLURBAPALOOZA 3x per year, for a different genre each time, so if this time isn't your wheelhouse, stay tuned!

WINNING ENTRY SELECTION:
Submissions will be evaluated by One Moorer’s team, with the final winner selected by Director of Author Services Nicola Pittam. Entries will be judged on the criteria of: Intriguing Hook, Character Introduction, Conflict and Stakes, Appropriate Tone, Conciseness, No Spoilers, Compelling Description and Relevant Details.
GRAND PRIZE:
The best Blurb will win a one month one-on-one mentorship with Nicola Pittam, One Moorer’s Director of Author Services ($650 value). This includes four 1-hour Zoom sessions where YOU can decide what you want work on.
Nicola can give you guidance on a variety of programs:
• How to adapt your script into a novel – turning a 20k word screenplay into a 70k manuscript.
• In-depth notes on your screen-to-book project.
• In-depth notes and coverage on an existing manuscript.
• Brainstorming on new projects – both manuscripts and screenplays.
COMPETITION GUIDELINES, TERMS, AND CONDITIONS
· We are currently seeking blurbs in the genre of THRILLER. Please do not submit other genres at this time. (Stay tuned for future competitions for other genres!)
· Must be 18 years old and over to enter. The competition is open to any writer worldwide except One Moorer employees and their families. Writers who have previously published three or more books are not eligible.
· Material must be the original work of the writer. Authors must own full copyright with no other attachments. All projects submitted will remain the property of the Writer. Neither One Moorer nor any of its employees assume any attachment to your work.
· Submissions must not have been previously published on a book jacket including but not limited to print, digital or online publications, audiobook or podcasts, or used as the Blurb/synopsis on any author website or published book listing: i.e. Amazon, Goodreads, BookBub, etc.
· Submissions must be in standard English, Times New Roman 12 pt, pdf format. Blurb should be 100-300 words. Please include your name, author name (if using a pseudonym), email, and book title. Do not include any additional documents with your submission i.e: full synopsis, pages or chapters. One entry per person.
· Entry into this competition does not constitute nor guarantee an offer of talent representation from One Moorer Management (OM2) or any other talent representative affiliated with us, and does not constitute nor guarantee publication by Dark Anthem Press or One Anthem Press, and does not constitute nor guarantee production by One Moorer Entertainment, Hyenas in Petticoats Productions, or any of our affiliates.
· All submissions are final. No amendments will be allowed. One Moorer is not responsible for any technical issue(s) that may arise from electronic submission.
· Entrants may be contacted as a result of the competition by One Moorer or affiliated industry professionals. By entering One Moorer’s Blurbapalooza, Entrant consents to receive competition updates via email and occasional marketing emails from One Moorer. You may unsubscribe at any time.
